MAME 0.211

As we pass the half-way point of 2019, it’s time for MAME 0.211, with all the excitement that brings. In this release, SGI Indy and MIPS RC2030 workstations have been promoted to working. This is a major milestone in RISC workstation emulation. If you’re feeling nostalgic, why not try one of them out, and install IRIX or RISC/os, respectively? This release also includes better support for the China Education Computer Apple II derivatives, along with a preliminary software list. This opens a window to Chinese classroom technology in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Speaking of software lists, we’ve added over five hundred cleanly cracked Apple II software titles, and imported a whole lot of ZX Spectrum cassette images.

Looking away from computer emulation for a moment, Game & Watch preservation keeps progressing, with the addition of Ball (the earliest Game & Watch release) and the panorama screen version of Donkey Kong Jr. The Gaelco/Salter Pro Cycle Tele Cardioline exercise system has been promoted to working, and the Pro Stepper system has been added. System 573 MP3 audio has been greatly improved in this release, and support has been added for more Bally pinball sound boards. ClawGrip added example programs from the V.R. Technologies VT03 software development kit. Gemcrush, a rare brick breaking arcade game, has been added in this release.

There are lots of other improvements, including a fix for the fatal error when switching away from MAME in Direct3D full-screen mode. You can get the source and Windows binary packages from the download page.

È un annuncio epocale, finalmente è possibile emulare le celebri e proibitive workstation SGI!
Si inizia con Indy!!!!!!

Community di tutto il mondo attendevano da anni un simile evento per un problema attualmente senza soluzione.
Nessuno prima di oggi era riuscito in questa impresa, non è possibile farlo neanche tramite virtual machine.

Per intenderci, su tali macchine, utilizzando Alias Wavefront Poweranimator, è stata realizzata la grafica di moltissimi titoli per:

Nintendo 64 (che aveva un processore MIPS come sulle SGI)
Sony Playstation
Sega Megadrive
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast

Peccato soltanto che l'emulazione è ancora lenta (per emulare una Indygo2 da 200Mhz con un i9 si raggiunge il 25% di velocità, dai test fatti sul forum dove c'è uno degli sviluppatori che lavora sul Mame).

Qualche gioco.. (di sicuro su hardware originale)

come questo, dello stesso team che poi realizzò Pilotwings su Nintendo 64

Qui, invece, si parla di produzione di giochi tramite la suite Alias su SGI
con interviste relative a Sony, Nintendo, Square, Interplay e altri studi sulla realizzazione di giochi come Mario Kart 64, Of Light and Darkness, Final Fantasy etc.

Fu un evento epocale, c'erano centinaia di persone, e ci fecero vedere delle cose che all'epoca erano fantascienza pura! Sembrava che ci avessero trasportati su Marte...
Davano anche dei gadget in plastica (non mi ricordo cosa fosse esattamente) ma lo buttai via subito. Oggi se lo avessi lo metterei nella vetrinetta...

Preferisco non chiederti come mai eri lì, altrimenti potrei andare OT per circa 30 pagine, mi limito a dire che se non erro le prime SGI erano made in Switzerland...

TGP issues. This happened around 0.196 when Galibert rewrote TGP emulation so Virtua Racing can use the real TGP program. Either the current dump in MAME is bad or TGP emulation isn't complete. Actual name of TGP is mb86233/4 from Fujutsu. We still haven't got a response from Gailbert as of this day.

queste informazioni vengo da byoac e le scrive l'utente Hydreigon, di cui però non so nulla, salvo averlo visto scrivere sul canale discord del DEMUL.

visto che sempre di mame si parla scrivo qui altri 2 bug che trovo... il primo è in outrunners, mame all'avvio segnala che che potrebbero esserci dei problemi audio a causa del driver.
io invece segnalo che non è possbile (poi magari è così anche il cab da sala) configurare per poter abilitare il continue.
in test menù la prima voce in alto fa selezionare individual o continue ma non viene salvata l'opzione continue, resta sempre su individual.

ultimo bug che ho trovato recenetemente nel mame di cui invece è forse sul pezzo @Barito ....
i due world rally champ hanno fra le varie variabili la marcia H o la marcia L, nelle opzioni del mame non è però possibile abilitare a schermo l'iconcina della leva del cambio come è invece possibile fare credo in tutti i giochi che hanno il cambio.

Se l'icona a schermo non è abilitabile è perché probabilmente non è implementata nel driver del gioco ancora. Non è attivabile su tutti i giochi con cambio, ma solo su quelli con marcia Hi/Lo a singolo switch. Forse world rally era a doppio switch (in mame due pulsanti, uno per marcia) quindi l'indicazione a schermo non serve.
Sul discorso muri imvisibili in VR: io a dire il vero li riscontro anche in mame 0.160 nella pista con la ruota panoramica. Credo sia un problema di emulazione più vecchio di quanto dicano su byoac.
Il "continue" di outrunmers se non ricordo male ha a che fare con la partita a 2 giocatori, ma non ricordo in che termini (bisognerebbe guardare il manuale del cab).

Dal ciglio della strada osservo sbraitando i lavori in corso nel mondo arcade...

non so cosa risponderti, non conosco bene nessuno dei giochi che citi e non ho idea dei difetti di cui parli.
Ti consiglio di dare un'occhiata a che è il sito in cui vengono raccolti tutti i difetti noti del MAME, e che i MAMEDEV usano come riferimento quando provano a correggere degli errori.
Così potrai verificare se gli errori di cui parli sono già presenti nel sito (e quindi ben noti ai MAMEDEV che semplicemente non hanno ancora trovato un modo per risolverli), oppure se sia il caso di aprire una segnalazione nuova (cosa che puoi tranquillamente fare da solo).
